Christiane Wien (DE)
graduated in 2018 from the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar in Saarbrücken (Germany) with a master’s degree in Fine Arts/Sound Art after she had received her BFA in sculpture and installation from Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences, Alfter (Germany) in 2016. She also holds a master’s degree in German literature, history and linguistics from Humboldt University Berlin (Germany).
Working with sound as a visual artist, Wien develops site-specific installations: During her master’s studies Wien dealt intensively with concrete, sound and space, exploring the sonic qualities of concrete as a sculptural material, searching for its ‘original’ sound. Wien sees the medium of sound as a sculptural extension that exudes into spaces, changing and shaping them. Currently Wien deals with the structure of parabolic mirrors, translates them into new materials and contexts and explores their acoustic and visual potentials.
Wien’s work has been featured in exhibitions in Germany (Essen, Saarbrücken, Cologne, Bonn, Düsseldorf) and France. She received a studio grant from the Saarländisches Künstlerhaus in 2019/2020, and is a prize-winner (special distinction) in the 2019 edition of the sonotopia competition.
